Rules to be observed without fail

Parinati Parva Updhan 2027

  1. 1.Updhan tap is a momentous observance, one that can be undertaken only once in a lifetime. Performed rightly, it can change both the state of the soul and the direction of its progress. Come, therefore, ready to perform it with complete purity of self.
  2. 2.This observance is for tasting the savour of a life of restraint. Kept properly, it lets you experience, even while living as a shravak, something of the clarity and gladness of complete renunciation. Come with the aim of making that scriptural line your own: samano iva savao havai jamha, for the shravak becomes as though a monk.
  3. 3.A letter of consent is required in order to join the Updhan tap.
  4. 4.About fifteen days before the Updhan tap begins you will be sent a letter of instructions. It will carry a diet plan for those fifteen days, the japa and other practices for clearing the mind, and workouts suited to preparing the body. Follow it carefully, so that the real gladness of Updhan tap is yours to experience.
  5. 5.The Updhan is to be performed according to prescribed rite. Mobile phones and similar devices may therefore not be used, neither directly nor through anyone else. Should something be genuinely urgent, you may, with the permission of the revered Guru Bhagwant, pass word to the volunteer brothers and sisters, and they will carry your message to the right person.
  6. 6.Purity of clothing, of vessels and of the religious implements is essential in Updhan.
  7. 7.Every implement, the charavalo, muhpatti, kamli, asan and the rest, must be used properly and in accordance with samachari. As penance for lapses in this, the revered Guru Bhagwant may issue an instruction extending as far as removal from the Updhan.
  8. 8.You are to take part yourself, and with eagerness, in the vachana, the meditation practice, devotion to the Lord, the various anushthans, the kriyas, the japa and all the rest.
  9. 9.Updhan tap exists to cultivate a turning inward, towards the soul. Keeping silence as far as you can during these days will therefore be to your good, and it is desirable that contact with family and loved ones stays as little as possible. When someone comes to ask after your wellbeing, make it your aim to draw them into the aradhana. They should leave carrying away from you the sweetness of a life of restraint. It will not do for them to leave their worldly affairs behind with you.
  10. 10.The organising family holds a very lofty aspiration, and so your nivi, ayambil and other meals will be served with the finest of provisions. But your own aim should be to cultivate as much desirelessness and restraint as you are able.
  11. 11.Your health, your physical condition and your needs will be understood, and every proper arrangement made for you. Please do not, however, quarrel with the volunteer brothers and sisters or with the staff over anything at all. Every complaint of yours will be settled as quickly as it can be. Patience and understanding are asked of you in return.

Please accept the respectful salutations of the Mandan Parivar.
